Training

Training at Number 6 is organised by the Employment/Training Coordinator, Andy Horseman. Number 6 offers a variety of training programmes for people with HFA/AS, their families/carers and other professionals, including:

  • General awareness of High Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome.
  • A series of sessions for Families and Carers offering practical ideas and advice.
  • Overviews of Asperger Syndrome issues and how they relate to statutory services and voluntary organisations.
  • Issue-specific, tailor-made packages which can be delivered to groups of any size.

Training is usually provided by the Number 6 staff, who have experience of supporting individuals on a practical, day-to-day basis. However, when necessary, Andy will arrange for training to be delivered by specialists in a particular area of need.

Training for people who use the service and their families/carers is free of charge. Statutory and voluntary organisations should request a copy of the Number 6 pricing policy.

There are two courses now available for booking. Introduction to Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism is a two-hour course, for anyone wanting a brief introduction to AS/HFA. Understanding and working with adults with Asperger Syndrome or High Functioning Autism is a more in-depth, full-day course, aimed at professionals and voluntary organisations. More information and dates for these courses can be downloaded by clicking on the course title.

Courses have limited places and bookings are made by telephone or e-mail. If booking by e-mail, your place will not be fixed until a member of staff has confirmed this with you.
